It’s NOT a PageRank Update!

January 11th, 2007

I believe my last blog post could have caused some confusion. If you notice I was very careful to ask if your Toolbar PageRank has dropped to zero - not your PageRank. Your current “real” PageRank has not changed at all, in fact it is updated fairly regulary. What is actually happening is a PageRank Export which is the process of interpreting your PageRank value into Toolbar PageRank. So you see, regardless of what the Toolbar PageRank says - your PR isn’t affected. Please note also, when I say “Toolbar” PageRank, I don’t literally mean just the browser plugin - all PR values you get (from websites etc) are just giving you Toolbar PageRank.

Matt Cutts has recently posted a nice infrastructure status which covers this PR export.

Matt also points for those with supplemental problems:

..the main determinant of whether a url is in our main web index or in the supplemental index is PageRank.
