Don’t register for Webmaster World

January 9th, 2007

One pet annoyance I have is when you perform a search in Google, it comes up with what appears to be useful results, so you click, only to be taken to a page which says you must register/pay to access the content.

Webmaster world is one of the biggest offenders. Searching for articles, takes you to their site, telling you to register to read the content.

Well enough I say! If googlebot can read the content, then I want to be able to as well! If you’re using Firefox then simply change your user agent to googlebot and enjoy your free access to Webmaster World.

Great post. I had no idea about the sweet FF hack. WMW is and has been guilt of “spamdexing” for quite some time now. Nice to have a work-around :P.

    Hey, great tip - thanks!
That’s always frustrated me too, especially when the page on WMW seems like *exactly* the one you’re after.
