Reviewing the situation

March 9th, 2006

With the rest of the marketing department away on an Affiliate training course in London, I’m left to hold the fort. We’ve had our reviews for Tunisia and Hobbies published by The Good Web Guide. I’m happy to say that both sites got the full 5/5 stars! Generally I try to avoid pay type of “pay per inclusion” scheme, however I’ve seen the goodwebguide book in several bookshops I’ve been to, they have a mailing list of around 18,000 people and the price was right. You can read the review for Hobbies here and Tunisia here.

I caught sight of a story yesterday about Google planning a total storage solution which was apparently discovered by a blogger who found a wrongly published article from Google. I’m personally skeptical as to whether Google makes such mistakes, in time honoured tradition, they of course declined to comment. The idea of backing up entire hard drives on “unlimited” storage space, seems logistically mind-boggling, let alone the thought of various security issues. The story certainly got around, not just your usual forums but I spotted it on BBC as well as a small section in Marketing Week.

Finally, I’ve been playing with the new robots.txt validator on Google Sitemaps. This is an incredibly useful tool that will actually follow your robots.txt leaving nothing to chance. I can see this tool being introduced by lots of other search engines, it’s much better than the validators you find dotted around the net.
